2013 POLIZIANO
ROSSO DI MONTEPULCIANO
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

Montepulciano Lesson #666: When the last word of an Italian wine is "Montepulciano," it designates the village of Montepulciano, which is in Southern Tuscany and the grape is primarily Sangiovese. The Noble wines of Montepulciano are some of the most exciting in Tuscany and represent some of the best bang for your buck. When the word "Montepulciano" is first, it is the name of the grape and is from the Abruzzo region that lies east of Rome on the Adriatic coast. Whether it be Abruzzo or Toscana, the red wines of both of these regions are extremely exciting.

This particular offering from Tuscany is a perennial favorite and for vintage 2013, is a smashing value. A renowned Vino Nobile di Montepulciano producer and one of the Gang of Four, Federico Carletti consistently produces wines at all price-levels that seemingly over-deliver and represent their areas so very well. Sage and violet-dominated scents with wild cherry fruit underneath. Luscious, round flavors are nicely buffered by a roasted coffee undertone. The finish invites you back for another glass. Drink this delicious Tuscan red on an every evening basis and with a range of hearty fall dishes.

2013 TORRE DEI BEATI
MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

There are "pizza" Montepulciano D'Abruzzo wines for 10 bucks that are wonderfully fruity and delicious. Within the region, there is quite an emergence of small producers doing prominent, complex wines with this excellent grape varietal. Torre Dei Beati is an exciting winery, owned and operated by Adriana Galasso and her husband Fausto Emilio Albanesi. In 1999 Adriana's father gave her a ten hectare vineyard that he had planted himself in 1972 at which time she immediately set out to produce delicious wine.

The 2013 vintage shows real low-yield intensity from its opaque color to the concentrated notes of black plum, ripe cherry, espresso bean and lavender. This mouthcoating beauty is soft, round and beautifully balanced. Take advantage of this approachable power and enjoy this soulful Italian red now with hearty, soulful roasted meat dishes and sharp cheeses. Otis Redding would be proud. A seriously made Montepulciano that will please any Italian wine fanatic.
