2012 GRAMERCY CELLARS SOUTHERN BLEND 'LOWER EAST'
[reg. $34.99]
SPECIAL - $26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

Lower East is a tribute to Walla Walla being in Lower East Washington and Gramercy Cellar and Rhone varietal stalwart Greg Harrington making his bones at Gramercy Tavern in New York. 2012 is a spectacularly structured and full vintage in Washington, but Gramcery wines are always in-check and very much in balance.

40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and teeming with an array of strawberry scents along with pronounced white pepper, fennel, underbrush, balsamic and smoked licorice; in the mouth it pumps out Washington warmth and old world class. Many layers, plenty of vibrancy and ample length and spice. Irresistible as hell now, it will also have no problem aging and developing more nuance through 2022.

2014 DROIN CHABLIS
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Over the last decade-plus, Benoit Droin has taken over this well-run estate and has moved the wines from modernity, transforming them into very classic, apex-level Chablis. First thing to remember is that Chablis is not from the assclowns at Gallo, but a village in France that specializes in some of the world's most unique and profound expressions of terroir-driven chardonnay that is not easily duplicated elsewhere in the world.

Tactile aromas possess fragrant lime, saline, stone and crustaceans that follow into a wiry, elevated authoritatively detailed texture that has excellent mid-palate presence. The finish rings long after the wine is swallowed and is more reminiscent of a Premier Cru offering. A wonderful producer and a wonderful deal have this superb, above the norm, AC Chablis offering with just about anything that swims.

2012 MONTEPELOSO 'A QUO'
TOSCANA ROSSO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

One of unique Super Tuscan blends, A Quo is not from the famed Bolgheri region but an undeniable upstart area along the Tuscan Coast known as Suvereto. This particular area of the Maremma is primed to drop the challenge for superiority when it comes to Super Tuscan blends and along with Tua Rita, Montepeloso is at the pinnacle. Known for uber expensive offerings, here is a chance to experience a wine that delivers an abundance of brilliance for not a ton of money.

40-45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Montepulciano, and the balance Sangiovese, Marselan and Alicante Bouschet grown in soils that have similarities to those of St-Emilion and are in a Mediterranean climate that is warmer than inland around the Chianti zone. Inviting and deep with broad aromas of coffee, anisette, Italian plum, blackberry and savory spice shine from the glass. Ever refined and sophisticated in the mouth with fine-grained tannins framing the potpourri of complex components throughout all climaxing with a scintillating, drawn-out finish that refuses to leave your mouth. So many pairings and so little time, drink this rock star Italian red through 2021.

2012 MARECHAL SAVIGNY-LES-BEAUNE
'VIEILLES VIGNES'
$44.99 BTL./$539.88 CASE

Claude Marechal gets so much out of his wines that come from his humble appellations, yet interestingly, only one is a Premier Cru. After attempting to make a rendezvous for several years, I finally had the chance to visit this guy back in 2012. After the tasting and while driving north out of Burgundy, I left wondering in amazement, what if this man had land in top premier and grand cru sites? The secret to the quality at Domaine Marechal is old vines and a friendship that Claude struck up with a fellow, legendary Burgundian, the late Henri Jayer. Claude does a hell of a job emulating the wines of his mentor and they reveal so much more than their prices would ever suggest.

Based in Bligny-les-Beaune, Marechal produces 12 different wines from 6 villages and his Savigny-les-Beaune Old Vines comes from three well-positioned single vineyards with vines planted in 1955. Vintage 2012 is turning into quite an excellent one whose subsequent wines have luminous aromatics along with silky, complex textures. This is vintage of fine detail and one that will be very sneaky in its longevity yet will always maintain approachability. Fragrant aromas that show the black fruit side of the Côtes-de-Beaune shine as plum, blackberry and peppercorn shine through. Pure and terroir-laden throughout. Tightly focused and tightly wound with impressive material from an excellent core of fruit. The finish is classic northern Beaune and is tightly focused, compact and very persistent. Hold on to this one until its fifth birthday and drink it through 2023, you will thank us (and yourself) for scoring such a fine Pinot Noir value.

GASPARINI PROSECCO SUPERIORE
COLLI ASOLO BRUT
$79.99 - 3 LITER BOTTLE

With the holidays now upon us, what better to celebrate that with bigass bottles of deliciously dry Italian bubbly! The Prosecco-producing region of Colli Asolo was decreed as its own DOCG commencing in 2009 and the mineral-packed soils differentiate from its more famous neighbor of Valdobbiadene.

At 11% alcohol this is a sparkler that possesses serious BPH factor, that's Bottles Per Hour to you and me!! Energetic, lemony and saline aspects shimmer from the glass and roll into a texture that has a fine mousse and vivid flavors that entice one into another glass or bottle. Enjoy it alone or with pre-dinner nibbles or a main dish based around shrimp.
