2012 J. CHRISTOPHER PINOT NOIR
'DUNDEE HILLS'
$35.99 BTL./$431.88 CASE

Named ‘Best in Class’ in the October issue of Sunset Magazine and after enjoying a bottle, we must concur!

Part of the J. Christopher terroir series, the 2012 Dundee Hills comes from some serious vineyard sites (La Colina, Meyer and Charlie’s Vineyard, which is adjacent to Clos Electrique). Aromatic, finely detailed with a lovely combo of violet, plum, jasmine and lavender that build and build as it unfolds in the glass. Silk-laden, very mouth-crawling, sultry pinot palate. Tightens as expected on the finish revealing lots of length and immense potential. Deceptively tempting to drink now if you wish however, it will develop and silk out even further over the next 10-12 years.

2013 FONTSAINTE CORBIERES
'LES DEMOISELLES'
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

Domaine Fontsainte is a pioneering estate when it comes to Corbieres. This winery has been influential over the last 25+ years in bringing this Languedoc region into the forefront with palate-pleasing, soulful wines that respect the terroir. Demoiselles is the killer, apex predator wine from this estate and the 2013 is so delicious that I need to find a megaphone to shout it out even louder!

Made with 60% Carignan from 100+ year old vines along with 30% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, the wine completely overachieves for its pricepoint. I uncork bottles of this one with really thick, grilled Carlton Pork Chops slathered in olive oil, garlic and fennel, the combination is nothing short of a miraculous nuclear explosion! Instantly after pouring into the glass, Mediterranean aromas of crushed red raspberry, wind-swept herbs, lavender and pepper along with gentle cocoa notes filled the air. A soulful wine indeed and a truly harmonious ensemble of savory richness and poise that all follows through to the ample dry and vibrant finish. A Corbieres of impeccable quality, this can age nicely for 5-7 years. Enjoy it with sausage and bean casserole, grilled steak and of course, pork chops!

2011 CELLAR PARDAS XAREL.LO BLANC
$21.99 BTL./$131.94 - SIX PACK

One of the coolest and most fun white wines that I have tasted with this year!! Celler Penedes is a young operation in the Upper Penedes region located south of Barcelona. Founded in 1996 by Ramon Perera and Jordi Arnan, these guys are farming their 60+ acres on hillside terraces, making absolute authentic, organic wines that deliver ample quality and character for fair prices.

Xarel.lo is a native Catalan white grape and one that is utilized in both classic still wines as well as Cava. It is quite rare to see one that is 100% of the varietal and after tasting, it was quite the revelation. Intense aromas and flavors of melon, quince, ginger, acacia, white peach and mineral follow through to a texture that is expansive, diverse and with cool fruit that is seemingly suspended on a tight wire with burst. The finish here is lively, refreshing and quite complex with all components and aspects melding together making this wine ideal for richer seafood like halibut, lobster or scallops. Along with the Rose, it will create happiness at any paella party.

2012 NOVELTY HILL MERLOT
COLUMBIA VALLEY
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

When it comes to Washington wines that deliver an abundance of bang for the buck there aren't too many that do it better than Novelty Hill. The wines here are made by Mike Januik who certainly has a lengthy resume of excellent releases from his eponymously named winery as well as his days with Chateau Ste-Michelle.

2012 in Washington is shaping up to be very special indeed, these are wines of deep fruit and substance yet show class and detail very well. Suave and very handsome, this Merlot exudes incredible class given its dense core. Suave and very handsome, this merlot exudes incredible class. Lush raspberry, violet, coffee and subtle Bordeaux-inspired mineral notes carry over into a smooth, generous and forward texture that is both easy-going and deep. Nicely drawn-out with building spiced-earth notes on the finish. Yet another fabulous wine for the money from Novelty Hill Drink it now through 2020.

2010 SCARPA MONFERRATO ROSSO
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

From Piedmont and undoubtedly an old school producer. The region of Monferrato sits east of Asti and puts forth interesting, flavorful and often times, very value-oriented wines. This tasty Rosso is made from mostly Dolcetto with a splash of Ruche thrown in for even more aromatics.

Forward scents of blackberry, sage, and violets combine with a mouthful of dark berry fruit, black pepper, and nice lift and structure on the finish. An excellent wine on its own or with your everyday dinner fare such as pasta, pork chops, or steak.

CHAMPAGNE BILLECART-SALMON
BRUT RESERVE
SPECIAL - $49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE

This is the first time we’ve offered this spectacular Champagne for this price in many years! At 60,000 cases of total production spread out over 9 different selections, Billecart-Salmon is one of the Champagne region's smaller houses but is also one that Champagne-lovers know so well and one that we refer to as "small but mighty".

What famed Champagne house Billecart-Salmon is doing is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Having changed focus at the turn of the millennium by considerably lowering production and almost taking on a grower's mentality, this house is now producing wines in a much more that are made in a terroir-driven, richly layered but elegant style. More dimension and less focus on their former fruit-driven style, which was always good , however now these wines are even more outstanding. The petite, elegant mousse tells a lot about the quality of this impressive Champagne. It is quite full in style, with flavors of white currants, white chocolate, brioche and a rich, firmly-dry and achingly beautiful long aftertaste. It is a perfect food Champagne, with structure, depth and a good tension between richness and elegance. Champagne-lovers take note, if you haven't had Billecart in a while, you owe it to yourself to re-visit or try it if you haven't had it before. Frankly I find it all too difficult to convey my excitement for this wine on an e-mail blast. You want some of this at this price, it goes back up to its regular pricing after the holidays.
