2013 FONTSAINTE CORBIERES
'RESERVE LA DEMOISELLES'
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

Domaine Fontsainte is a pioneering estate when it comes to Corbieres. This winery has been influential over the last 25+ years in bringing this Languedoc region into the forefront with palate-pleasing, soulful wines that respect the terroir. Demoiselles is the killer, apex predator wine from this estate and the 2013 is so delicious that I need to find a megaphone to shout it out even louder!

Made with 60% Carignan from 100+ year old vines along with 30% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, the wine completely overachieves for its pricepoint. I uncork bottles of this one with really thick, grilled Carlton Pork Chops slathered in olive oil, garlic and fennel, the combination is nothing short of a miraculous nuclear explosion! Instantly after pouring into the glass, Mediterranean aromas of crushed red raspberry, wind-swept herbs, lavender and pepper along with gentle cocoa notes filled the air. A soulful wine indeed and a truly harmonious ensemble of savory richness and poise that all follows through to the ample dry and vibrant finish. A Corbieres of impeccable quality, this can age nicely for 5-7 years. Enjoy it with sausage and bean casserole, grilled steak and of course, pork chops!

2014 LAVANTUREAUX PETIT CHABLIS
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Mineral drenched. These are the ultimate two words to describe the newest release from one of our favorite values from France’s Chablis region. Domaine Lavantureaux is a prime specialist in Petit Chablis. Chablis versus Petit Chablis? The difference isn’t in size as the moniker may have to believe but it is soil distinction, Petit Chablis is grown in Portlandian soil versus Kimmeridgian.

2014 is the next big thing in Chablis; this is a perfect storm vintage that seemingly has all of the goodness that Chablis has to offer. Pure has hell and while we’re at it, let’s get back to the beginning of this entry and use caps – MINERAL DRENCHED!! An underlay of lemon and floral is present but this is all about the earth and guttural beauty. Combining nervosity and detail with depth from old vines, this wine has remarkable likability and pairs exquisitely with food. Crack several bottles with dozens of fresh crab, oysters or a white fish like cod in a light sauce and served with green vegetables.

2013 CAMERON PINOT NOIR
'ARLEY'S LEAP'
$39.99 BTL./$479.88 CASE

Arley's Leap Pinot Noir was created in the mid-90s. The base of the wine consists of clippings from Clos Electrique that were planted up at Abbey Ridge in 1990, this is the secret weapon in the Cameron arsenal of great Pinot Noirs.

The first aromas almost transport you to somewhere in the Cote-de-Beaune with its alluring, penetrating perfume of lavender, turned earth, rose petal, smoked herbs and subtle meaty tones. Cerebral and very suave, there are layers of sophistication and grace in the mouth. Beautifully expressed even now, we all know that Cameron’s Pinot Noirs age like beasts and this wine has a deceptive underbelly of structure and dimension that is going to reveal itself even further. Super-material on the drawn-out finish that is even-keeled and just waiting to unleash itself, the vinous, mouth-coating, sultry texture that is present on the entire palate truly belies its usual lower alcohol level. A terrific choice to drink as well as to put some away and enjoy over the next 10-12 years. 225 cases produced. Knockout juice from one of Oregon's masters…Bravo!!
