2018 SHIBA-WICHERN CELLARS
AUXERROIS 'HAVLIN VINEYARD'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Akiko Shiba earned her degree in winemaking form the esteemed University of Geisenheim in Germany's Rheingau region. After working at wineries in Germany and at Evesham Wood, St. Innocent, and Ayres, she and Chris Wichern launched Shiba Wichern. Their small production of about 900 cases/year has earned a lot of well-deserved respect, and after tasting these earlier this week, I was mighty impressed.

The Auxerrois grape is most known in the wines of Alsace and can be blended and even referred to as Pinot Blanc, yet it is a completely different grape with origins around Lorraine in France. A number of producers also utilize it here in Oregon including Cameron but this mono-varietal version from the Havlin Vineyard in the Van Duzer Corridor region is smashingly delicious. Smoky, ripe and vibrant with honey, pineapple, spice and melon ball. Complex, fully dry, 11.4% alcohol, the wine shows off excellent movement, classic Auxerrois substance all moving towards a succulent, tingly finish possessing excellent extension. A local white to pair with turkey or salmon as well as Asian fare. WINES ORDERED WILL ARRIVE NEXT WEEK

PINOT NOIR 'WILLAMETTE VALLEY'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Another revelation tasted this week from Shiba-Wichern was this tasty Pinot Noir value. Coming from Havlin in Van Duzer, Nuestro Sueno and Lewman Vineyards from Eola-Amity, this superb Pinot has major league bang for the buck.

Blackberry, lavender, strawberry licorice, kisses of tarragon and cinnamon follow through to a sultry texture with deceptive depth, poise and material. Like any superb Pinot Noir, this wine fans out nicely on the palate, extends beautifully, and sticks around. Very lovable now and can age nicely over the next 6-8 years. A real Oregon find a producer to get in on now before the wines really take off and become more and more scarce. WINES ORDERED WILL ARRIVE NEXT WEEK
