2016 DOMAINE LA CONSONNIERE
LIRAC ROSE
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

Even though it is a neighbor of Tavel, it is somewhat of an enigma to see Lirac Rose because this region is famed for its red and white wines. Located just across the river from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, we are seeing more and more producers from there scooping up land in Lirac. La Consonniere is a terrific producer who is on the rise in Chateauneuf so when I was presented with his Rose from Lirac, I was rather intrigued.

Nothing at all like Tavel, this Rose is made from 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 25% Cinsault and is directly pressed. Coming from sandy soils in the sector known as ‘L’Attrayant’, this Pretty Provencal Pink teems with scents of kirsch, rosemary and peach. Suave and nicely textured with depth and elevation. Very real and expressive of its terroir, enjoy this Rose accompanied with a charcuterie plate and a bunch of wine guzzling friends.

2016 BASTIDE BLANCHE
BANDOL ROSE
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Rose is now taking on a different vibe these days with the variance of styles. I often categorize Rose into two types, rose pour la terrasse et rose pour le repas. Bandol certainly isn’t a Rose for the porch, it is one to have with a meal. Good Southern French Rose should have good character and esteem and one region that always does is Bandol.

Bastide Blanche is a longtime Cellar Door icon and always offers up outstanding value given its over-the-top quality, maintinaing its $20 pricetag for years. 62% Mourvedre, 18% Cinsault, 16% Grenache & 4% Bourboulenc, the 2016 Bandol Rose is mouthfilling, yet fresh, with meaty notes of baked red apple, apricot and wild strawberry intertwined with alluring spice and beautiful dried flower aromas. Cool and uplifting notes bring it all into balance, the word yum is written all over my notes from tasting it about a month ago. This is a rose for pork dishes, herb encrusted goat cheeses and rich seafood dishes such as grilled salmon or a classic bouillabaisse or paella. We never tire of talking about great wine and when it is a fantastic Bandol Rose for $20, we acquire our own stash then we yell it from the rooftops loud enough so you can hear. MAGNUMS AVAILABLE - $49.99

2016 DOMAINE DE LA JANASSE
COTES-DU-RHONE ROSE
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

Since 1990, Christophe Sabon has become one the kings of Grenache in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and along the way has received many mighty accolades. Not only does he make top-level Chateauneuf, he also makes delicious, very detailed Cotes-du-Rhone and this offering, a stunning Cotes-du-Rhone Rose.

Blended with 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 10% Syrah & 10% Counoise, one sniff of this wine and you are vicariously transported to a gite in the South Of France, sitting on a deck in the sun and quaffing glass after glass of this shimmering rose. Red and black cherries, fragrant herbs and mineral, its generosity builds and unfolds into a texture that is mouth-watering, persistent and tingling. Perfect for summer sipping and it will pair well with grilled fish or chicken.

2016 CASTELL'IN VILLA
TOSCANA ROSE
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

Made from 100% Sangiovese and gently pressed after 12 hours of skin contact, this Rose could lovingly be referred to as Chianti Rose because it comes from sites within the zone. However, that would be illegal. Then again, it is Italy, so what the hell; we’ll call it Chianti Rose anyway!

As one would expect with a wine from Castell’In Villa, this Rose has teeth. Very versatile and extremely delicious with detonating scents of baked cherry, strawberry, and a touch of white pepper. The great freshness, intensity, berry fruits and soft spice that blitz the senses on the nose do the same in the mouth. Delicious by itself or with grilled fish, different spicy Thai influenced dishes, pecorino, or wild strawberries drizzled with great balsamic vinegar. There is very little production of this wine and with the sizzling weather forecasted for this weekend, this scintillating rose is going to sell out quickly.
