2012 VIETTI BARBERA D'ASTI
TRE VIGNE
$15.99 BTL./$191.88 CASE

One of our big oversights was not being quick enough to notify y’all of the new release of Vietti’s always well-priced and always tasty Barbera D’Asti Tre Vigne. The 2012 has been available for a while now but now that it has settled in a bit, the wine is screaming delicious at this magic moment.

A real go-to red wine, Vietti's Barbera D'Asti Tre Vigne is perennially the best value Barbera we work with and our true standard for Barbera quality under 20 bucks. 2012 is a classic vintage that has some qualities of what the delicious 2008 offered yet maintains its own confident spirit. Rocking with aromas of cocoa, black raspberry that intermingle nicely with allspice scents from Luca's thoughtful use of oak. Delightfully flavored with excellent complexity in the mouth. Rather frontal, complex, chewy and way above average for a Barbera at this price! Everything integrates nicely on the lingering, pleasing finish. Bravissimo to Luca Currado for once again producing a wine for under 20 bucks that makes you feel as though you are drinking something that costs a lot more! Score lovers will like because of 90 points from Wine Spectator. Wine lovers will guzzle it down on a regular basis!

2010 BAUMARD SAVENNIERES
$22.99 BTL./$275.88 CASE

Analyze to paralyze! Baumard's intellectual Savennieres is a thesis of the glass and one I cannot believe is still available given its stunning quality. One of the great names of the Loire valley and France, the progressive Florent Baumard bottles everything under twist-top, does not use wood and prefers to keep his wines at reasonable alcohol levels for the dry wines. Freshness and acidity are of the utmost importance. Bryan had a 7-hour visit to Domaine Baumard a few years ago and after numerous bottles at lunch, Florent stated about the grand region of Savennieres "I hate it! The Chenin never does what it is supposed to, if I were married to it, I'd ask for a divorce but I cannot find the correct lawyer!" Funny as he is, the wines here are very serious and sublime.

The following are my edited for content after drinking damn near a full bottle tasting notes: "From the Cru of Clos St-Yves in Savennieres. Alluring fragrances of granite, mandarin, steel and spiced-tea. Really shows the depth and complexity of the great 2010 vintage. Combines intensity of precision and cut with stellar, high-pitched fruit, precisely focused and depth of low yields and old vines are truly felt. The finish is tactile, crystalline and minerally - and very long! Delicious stuff with fish in sauce." Drink it through 2020+. Also, 91 points from The Wine Spectator.
