Cabernet Sauvignon form Washington or California often comes associated with expensive price tags. St. Bartholomew is a Washington project designed to produce a Cab that bucks this trend. Made by Chuck Reininger this is an absolute gem of a wine shows an enticing presence of succulent cassis, aromatic plum, hints of cedar, milk chocolate and allspice. In the mouth, the round, layered texture is inviting, billowy, ripe and forward. The finish brightens carrying quite a bit of extension, lusciousness and pleasure-factor that we feel that it will pair beautifully with steak, cheeseburgers or just plain by itself.

Hands down, this is one of the best Brunello deals, period! Located in the northern sector of Montalcino, Canalicchio is a sleeper producer who produces wines from an exquisite terroirs that provides immense elegance, polish, breed and depth. This is a wine that takes on the traits of its maker - holding its cards close to his chest - very debonair and only revealing its true personality when it is ready. If you haven't heard by now, 2006 is a resoundingly grand vintage for Montalcino and this wine follows its path nicely with wines built to last.

We're all familiar with the insatiably popular Haut Rian Bordeaux Blanc that Michel Dietrich produces, however, this guy is equally as proficient with his outstanding reds from the Côtes-de-Bordeaux. One hell of a value, this classic Bordeaux blend comes from various sites along the slopes of the Garonne River which encompass limestone, clay and gravelly soils.

Aged in 1-4 year old barrels, there is so much to love about this wine! Sultry stuff that's very stylish with a combination of violet, peonies, raspberries, spice-box and interwoven earth tones that persist from the glass. Extroverted, flavorful, super-smooth with engaging hints of allspice on the very above-the-norm finish for a wine at this price. Extremely engaging now, this wine does have a propensity to age, especially in a grand vintage like 2009. Versatile stuff that can be consumed over the next 4-5 years with chicken, quail, grilled pork, andouillette sausage, even pizza!

Having recently revisited this wine, it is still evident that 2008 is definitely a revered vintage for Oregon Pinot Noir collectors. It is also quite a thrill to actually be able to offer one and from a fine vineyard site as well. The nose here is striking with sandalwood, perfumed blackberries, violet and bright cranberry undertones. Luxurious, ethereal and multi-faceted in the mouth, it displays outstanding persistence, superb peppery aspects, underlying finesse and a drawn-out, expansive finish. There is something attractive and alluring about uncorking this resist the temptation and drink it 2014 - 2022+.

A friendly Tuscan red wine with no shortage of honest, true-to-form Sangiovese character. Bing cherry, earth tones, violet, roasted sage and spice dominate this medium and easy-going pleaser. Fresh and mouth-tickling with red fruit flavors following into the mouth and leaving your palate cleansed but satisfied. Have it with spaghetti & meatballs.

Thank goodness Portuguese wines such as this haven't been discovered…at least for now. Originating on the Setubal peninsula, Quinta Do Bacalhoa is an iconic Portuguese estate known for two things, their over-the-top Cabernet Sauvignon and their world-renowned dessert wines. Venturing into other areas and creating some lip-smacking good values, Bacalhoa is now offering a roster of goodness from the entry level to the profound. The 2009 Tinto Da Anfora Tinto is quite the full-bodied charmer. A blend of Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira combined with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah this tangy, chewy red offers up aromas and flavors of smoked blackberry, mineral, kisses of cedar and underbrush that fully entice and make you want to drink more! Fleshy and smooth from start to finish, this wine delivers up way more than a 10 dollar wine ever should!

All too often, we forget just how good this wine really is!! Mount Eden is one of California's long-time, influential producers of Chardonnay with their Estate wine, but over the last few years, their Edna Valley version has proved to be one of the Golden State's best buys. This particular offering isn't their vaunted estate offering, but it also isn't over 50 bucks either. From the Wolff Vineyard in Edna Valley, this full lush Chardonnay is dominated by pineapple and orange from the outset. The palate shows off plenty of richness and buttery characteristics that one expects from California, but it also shows a vivid and balanced side that allows it to maintain freshness.

Over the last month, it seems as though we are offering a bubbly of the week, especially given all the goodies that are out there. Here is a tremendous Prosecco value that comes from a neighboring region of Valdobbiadene known as Montello e Colli Asolani. Alluring scents of wildflowers, pears, apples and gently placed mineral waft from the glass. The texture itself is worth the price of admission given its extra richness and depth that are both energetic, brisk, fruit driven and intense. Beautifully complex and while OK to go into a Bellini, it works even more exquisitely with light seafood dishes or as an aparativo either indoors, outdoors or while watching soccer with a gaggle of Italian friends.

If you are a fan of the greats of Walla Walla, we recommend that you get in on these wines now before they become as difficult to obtain as Leonetti or Quilceda Creek meaning they'll be sold exclusively via mailing list at some point. Doubleback is the project from ex-NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe with the wines being made by Leonetti's Chris Figgins. Not wanting to just buy some juice and to slap a label with his name on a bottle, Bledsoe bought and planted two vineyards and is highly involved in the winemaking process as well as the vineyard management of this highly anticipated project...Notes from owner Drew Bledsoe: "As with our previous vintages, the 2009 shows a beautiful deep ruby color in the glass. The nose evolves dramatically after a couple of hours. Initially there are notes of dried fruits, strawberries and a hint of saddle leather. After about 90 minutes the aromas evolve and begin to show some high toned floral notes and red fruits. The juice is round and soft on the attack with nicely integrated tannins even in its youth. The ripe red fruit is balanced nicely by crisp acidity. With the deft touch of a true master, Chris Figgins captured the essence of this fantastic vintage in the 2009 Doubleback Cabernet Sauvignon. Please open at least a couple of hours before enjoying to allow this wine to show its true character."
