2019 CAPRILI ROSSO DI MONTALCINO
$19.99 BTL./$119.94 - SIX PACK

100% Sangiovese and commonly referred to as the little brother of Brunello, this new release of a perennial Cellar Door favorite is sure to please. The 2019 Caprili Rosso di Montalcino comes from two single vineyard sites that are within the Brunello zone which allow this wine to be the terrific value that it always has represented. Best of all, it remains at its great 20-dollar price point!

Cherries galore, both black and red, instantly reveal themselves followed by sage, underlying red floral and turned earth notes, this traditionally vinified Sangiovese has a high pleasure factor indeed. Classy throughout with depth and personality in the mouth along with Caprili’s telltale smoothness, Italian tanginess arrives on the nicely formed finish that is full of snap and extension. This delicious red is everything that one should love about drinking fine Tuscan wines!

2020 WALTER SCOTT CHARDONNAY
'BOIS-MOI'
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

Being high sticklers who pursue only the highest quality, Walter Scott produced very little wine for vintage 2020. In fact, only one single vineyard of Chardonnay was produced with the majority of their top single sites (Freedom Hill, Loubejac, Hyland, Koosah, Seven Springs, and X Novo) highly scrutinized and selected then blended into this limited cuvee. Initially sampled last year when it was a bit more tightly wound it has developed nicely into a gorgeously formed Willamette Valley Chardonnay.

A very refined new world Chardonnay, this wine shows off complicated aromas of mandarin glaze, subtle grilled hazelnut, white peach and mineral with finely woven nutmeg notes. Nice depth, velvety, mouth-filling fruit and sophistication characterize the texture. The finish lifts, coats, cleanses then coasts on, persisting and expanding. We hate to use constantly use hyperbole, but in this case, it is merited. This is phenomenal juice from a serious blend for not a lot of money.

2018 CHATEAU PEY-MARTIN
MEDOC ROUGE
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

The Francisco family has been making wine in the Medoc since 1870, when they bought Chateau de la Croix, a Medoc Cru Bourgeois. The Chateau Pey Martin is in the Northern part of the Medoc vineyard with the Gironde Estuary directly to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, warm vintages often allow this normally cool climate area to put forth exciting wines.

A prototype Bordeaux blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot & 15% Cabernet Franc, revealing scents of generous cassis and blueberry with finesseful scents of tobacco, hints of cinnamon, fine herbs and after a few minutes of air, develops raspberry and blossom aspects. Mouth-filling, velvety and building complexity as it moves and seduces the palate, especially on the lingering, handsome finish. A rather upscale offering for not a lot of money, this wine will age nicely over the next 4-5 years.

2020 DOMAINE FINES-CAILLOTES
POUILLY-SUR-LOIRE BLANC
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Pouilly-Fume is lesser known than its more famous neighbor of Sancerre and lesser known is the overlapping region of Pouilly-sur-Loire and the use of the Chasselas grape. While 3000 acres of Sauvignon Blanc are planted and dedicated to the Pouilly-Fume appellation only 150 acres of Chasselas are cultivated and labeled as Pouilly-sur-Loire. The grape itself is the spiritual grape of Switzerland and is found sporadically in Alsace and Germany but also thrives well in this area of the Loire Valley. A bit of a blank slate, the grape is a terrific vehicle that orates terroir very well.

From the famed Pouilly village of Les Loges, the difference between this top address’s Pouilly-Fume and Pouilly-sur -Loire is grape and soil. Chasselas for this wine and grown in clay/limestone versus silex, kimmerige and limestone for the Sauvignon-driven Pouilly-Fume. Tender, very transparent aromas of citrus (lemon and orange), subtle spice, mineral and underlying hints of almond and white flowers. Unoaked, very breezy yet having more than fine material from 75-year-old vines, this wine possesses depth and superb movement on the palate all carrying over to a lingering finish that is tingly and hinting at nice salinity. Serve with fresh oysters or mussels, shrimp pasta, white fishes, asparagus salad and more.

2020 STATTI GAGLIOPPO
CALABRIA ROSSO
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

Something from Calabria that will be sure to please any adventurous Italian red wine lover! Made from 100% of the Gaglioppo grape which is originally of Greek origins and is thought to be introduced in Italy around the same time as Aglianico.

Statti is a leading producer in this area and there are values galore that emerge from this 100-acre estate. It is human nature to make comparisons and maybe the closest analogy that we come up with is that it may be likened to a warm climate Nebbiolo. Aged entirely in stainless steel tanks, Statti's version is chock full of roasted red plum, forest-floor, red licorice and rose petal aromas which follow into a warm, dry Italian texture that screams for tomato-based dishes.

CHAMPAGNE DELAMOTTE
BLANC DE BLANCS GRAND CRU
[reg. $104.99]
SPECIAL - $74.99 BTL./$449.94 - SIX PACK

Champagne Delamotte, the sister house to the legendary (and uber-expensive) Salon, is a Blanc de Blancs specialist of impeccable pedigree. With 250 years of history and being that all of their fruit for this Blanc de Blancs coming from 100% Grand Cru Vineyards, Delamotte's version is undoubtedly one of the most radiant that you will ever taste. Low dosage combined with 4-5 years on the lees before bottling makes it a seriously complex sparkler.

First and foremost, Delamotte is all about minerality and dimension; the key being the fruit being from the Grand Cru villages of Le Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. Classic Champagne chalky aromas combine nicely with aromatic lemon-blossom, white chocolate, ginger and subtle biscuit aspects all seemingly don't stop flowing from the glass. The entire package can best be described as pleasure and poise. Plenty of depth but plenty of livewire qualities it is perfect for sharing with friends and accompanied by freshly shucked oysters, crab or even lobster.

2018 GAI'A SANTORINI
'THALASSITIS' ASSYRTIKO
$39.99 BTL./$239.94 - SIX PACK

Greece is no longer just all about the floor polish known as retsina; in fact, there is a thriving wine industry that is being led by a young generation who have studied in France, Italy, America and Australia. They are then returning home to make wines that are distinct to what their terroir and native grape varietals have to offer.

Treat Greek wines as Mediterranean wine to serve with your finest preparations and not just dolmas or souvaki. Considered by many experts to be the greatest white grape in Greece, Assyrtiko is a grape known for having both intense rich depth and vibrant, lightning-like acidity. From the island of Santorini, which is the spiritual home of the varietal, Gai'a's Thalassitis winery and vineyard makes one of my favorite Mediterranean white wines that also has great aging potential. Earth, saline, prominent vitamin, powdery citrus and woven-in floral scents roll into a texture that is intensity personified. An authoritative white wine to have with lobster, crab or sole done with olives/capers over the next decade.

2018 QUINTA DO PORRAIS DOURO TINTO

Portugal remains one of the best nations where one finds tasty everyday drinkers for $12 and under. For several years, Quinta Do Porrais has consistently put forth some of our favorite Portuguese red wines. A dazzling, over-the-moon 12-dollar dry red from the Douro region, which is better known as the home of Port that is a blend of Sousao, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional (same grapes for the famed sweet Port wines).

Forward traits of chocolate-covered strawberry co-exist handsomely with Moroccan spice, finely placed oak and sneaky minerality. Bountiful and very stylish flavors captivate the palate with an almost-Italian plum-like quality before advancing through to the arousing finish that brings it all home. Enjoy with lamb, grilled sausage or a hearty stew.
