3 Rioja Wines - Red, White & Rose
Bodegas Ostatu is a family winery in Samaniego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Sheltered by the Sierra Cantabria, its chalk-and-clay vineyards help produce site-driven Rioja that favors clarity over extended barrel aging. Read on...
Made from 90% Tempranillo with 10% Graciano, Mazuelo, and Garnacha, the 2021 is absolutely smashing. Neo-classic in style, it offers violet, blackberry, cocoa, and Moroccan spice, with velvety texture, fine grip, and a long, structured finish. Upscale in character but not price, it should develop beautifully through 2031+.

One of Bodega Ostatu’s true specialties is white Rioja. Made in a modern, freshness-driven style rather than the traditional oak-aged, oxidative approach, this unoaked blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasia comes from vines 30 to 80 years old and offers remarkable expression.
Palate-coating yet exceptionally clean and zesty, Ostatu’s 2025 offers lime, freshly cut daisies, crushed rock, and plenty of texture and depth. These qualities carry through a brilliantly detailed finish marked by strong varietal character, impressive length, and real energy. It is like a cannonball dive into a cool pool. Enjoy it with grilled mussels, salads, gazpacho, or a group of good friends.

We have sold this impressive rosé—and enjoyed plenty of bottles ourselves—for nearly twenty years, and we think it is better than ever.
This is not a rosé made simply to capture market share. Its grapes—70% Tempranillo, 27% Garnacha, and 3% Viura—come from older vines and are grown specifically for this wine. The complex nose shows alluring Morello cherry, smoked herbs, dried rose petals, and a mineral undertone. On the palate, it is mouthwatering, savory, and appealing, with generous flavor, depth, and intrigue, followed by a vibrant, lingering finish. As always, it is excellent with traditional seafood dishes or on its own on the porch, but it also shines with spicy Latin or Asian-inspired preparations.
