Cellar Door's Feel You Friday
White Burgundy & Barbaresco Special
A distributor change equals an incredible special closeout deal. Only five cases available and they will go quickly at this price. Jeremy Arnaud is a young producer based just outside of Chablis. Owning 12 acres including Chablis, Petit Chablis and Chablis Premier Cru Vau de Vey, it is his Bourgogne wines from Tonnerre, about 10 miles from Chablis that made me excitedly get off the chair. Given the exorbitant pricing of Meursault, Puligny & Chassagne, it has allowed us to explore other regions of Burgundy where young producers are making significant and charismatic wines.
The instant that I put the glass up to my nose, the colorful metaphors commenced in my notebook. However, I will keep it clean for family wine drinking purposes! This is essence of Northern White Burgundy! Aged in oak (only 15% new) this is pristine, and very regal. Steely mineral opens the show with complex and classy yellow apple, nectarine, subtle hazelnut aspects on the nose and palate. Very nervy around the edges, with creamy depth shining on the persistent, snappy finish. A super-overachiever, this wine is a virtual trapeze artist. While accessible now, fine white Burgundy will easily age for 6-8 more years without any problem.

We had a resounding reaction to four bottles of a 39-dollar Barbaresco on this week’s sale sheet. In response we are offering another fine single Cru Barbaresco from another superb producer.
Geographically, Sori Montaribaldi is the last Cru vineyard in Barbaresco village before you come to Treiso and this site is pure limestone and the Taliano family specializes in this site. Purity and minerality from the get-go. Tar, violet and sleek red and black fruits arrive. Fine and freshness and ethereal, almost a bit defiant of Montaribaldi. Well, at least until the power and backbone arrive in mid-palate. Wiry, stacked finish that has superb thrust and extension.
