2017 REMO FARINA
VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Ripasso is a Veneto winemaking technique that consists of taking freshly pressed Valpolicella Classico juice and passing it over the pommace (mainly skins and seeds) of the Amarone. This is truly the best of both worlds, bringing a level of intensity that is perfectly balanced by the fresh and bright aspects of the Corvina and other native grapes.

Notes of mountain spices and wild red and black berries that speak of the Veneto perfectly intermingle with the core of sultry fruit and exotic spice that comes from the ripasso technique. Completely dry with equilibrium coming from the high-toned fruit brings a level of liveliness to the mix making this an extremely food friendly and versatile bottle of red wine. Enjoy with braised and hearty meat dishes, burgers, nutty cheeses & anything with stewed or roasted veggies.

2009 SIERRA CANTABRIA
RIOJA GRAN RESERVA
$39.99 BTL./$239.94 - SIX PACK

You do not need to adjust your glasses nor need an eye exam; the vintage is correct, 2009. Sierra Cantabria is a Rioja neo-classicist named after the small mountain range of the same range and brilliantly run by the Eguren family. The Gran Reserva is a top cuvee of the estate and is from their top sites, aged 25% in new oak for 26 months and then held back for around a decade in bottle before release.

Mellow aromas of mineral, roasted spice, graphite and cigar box add to the layered black cherry, vanilla and earth on the nose. This poised and seamless, old school Rioja is finesseful with a rich and serious core of lovely ripe but dry fruit flavors; the finish is long with soft tannins adding backbone and structure. Very alive and ready to drink however, it will continue to develop for at least another decade but even at this stage of the game, it has such elegant complexity that it wouldn't be a crime to open one with a rack of lamb, roasted pork loin or an aged manchego.

2016 CHATEAU PEGAU
COTES-DU-RHONE VILLAGES 'SETIER'
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

In 2012, the highly regarded Chateauneuf-du-Pape producer Domaine du Pegau purchased 41 hectares of land in Sourgues, just outside of Chateauneuf. Wines from these plots are labeled as Chateau Pegau. Mostly Cotes-du-Rhone Villages along with Cotes-du-Rhone and others are produced from these superbly located plots.

60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre from 50-year-old vines that are whole-cluster fermented and then aged in enamel-lined concrete tanks. Sultry ground pepper, lavender, plum and smoke win the day both on the nose and in the mouth. Typical of the wonderful 2016 vintage, it has generous grip as well as a stylish cushiony texture and a lingering, smooth finish that has excellent spice and prominent licorice. Accessible now, especially with a grilled steak, it is also very deceptive with its silky tannins, structure, and will easily develop for another six-8 years.

2020 GOODFELLOW FAMILY
WHISTLING RIDGE BLANC
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Inspired by the vineyard-designated blends of Alsace, Marcus Goodfellow has put forth something very special. Made with traditional grapes seen both in Alsace and here in Oregon, the desire to allow Whistling Ridge Vineyard to speak and transcending the varietals is mightily accomplished in this bottle.

Virtually glistening aromas of honeysuckle, apple, lemon, tinges of exotic spice and most importantly, a real rocky minerality that comes from the non-irrigated vines taking a vow of poverty and having to go deep to find the basalt rock and where the moisture lies within this vineyard's soils. Intense depth, dry, racy and radiant with loads of personality and structure in the mouth; long, mouth-watering and extensively complex on the finish.

2019 TAGUA TAGUA SYRAH
RAPEL VALLEY
$9.99 BTL./$119.88 CASE

From Chile and quite an everyday red wine. Teeming with smoke, pepper, violet and plum, it is almost too serious for its price point. Melted chocolate tones come from the glass adding to a texture that is silky with very good density. Black olive and thyme ride shotgun with classic cracked pepper on the expansive finish.

2015 ANDREW WILL CIEL DU CHEVAL
RED MOUNTAIN RED BLEND
$59.99 BTL./$359.94 - SIX PACK

Founded in 1989 by Chris Camarda and named after his son Will (who is now winemaker) and nephew Andrew, this estate is legendary in Washington making extremely profound wines and is on the pedestal of the state’s early influences such as Leonetti, Woodward Canyon and DeLille. Commencing in 2002, Chris Camarda started to produce wines from various single vineyards utilizing blends of grapes which influenced by Bordeaux. Do you ask if Chateau Latour or Mouton-Rothschild is Cabernet Sauvignon? No, you are drinking the great blend and gaining that essence of the site. Ciel du Cheval is from the Red Mountain appellation and is one of the longtime apex sites in Washington.

Located near Benton City the vines average 30 years old for this limited cuvee. Being a warm and torrid site Andrew Will prefers to make this wine sans Cabernet Sauvignon due to the loamy soils on gravel beds to reflect the site as well as its Right Bank influences. 63% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 is, as most of Andrew Will's wines are when they are young, is fruit driven but with ripe structure and cut to keep it honed. Blackberry combines nicely with cherry pit, dark chocolate, dried herbs and violet. Well-crafted and stacked, this wine will age very well through 2030+. If you love scores, this has 95 points from The Wine Advocate.

2016 ANDREW WILL CIEL DU CHEVAL
RED MOUNTAIN RED BLEND
$59.99 BTL./$359.94 - SIX PACK

Not to be outdone by the 2015, the excellent and more firmly structured 2016 is equally as top-echelon. These wines will reach an apex around the same time but they will certainly take different paths in getting there.

The 2016 is quite the powerhouse red but the underbelly of suaveness is what allows it to maintain harmony and stylish aspects. A strong, full nose of black raspberry, Christmas spice, cigar box and smoked nutmeg gives way a broad texture with plenty of chewy cherry tones morphing into lovely anise and plum along with an undertone of mineral earth on the lingering and palate staining finish. Like the 2015, the 2016 will do very well through 2030 and beyond.
