2019 EXPERIENCE CABERNET SAUVIGNON
NAPA VALLEY
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

Searching for 25-dollar Napa Cab is akin to Snoop Dogg giving up weed. INCONCEIVABLE! After traveling the world, learning and experiencing other wineries and wine regions, Catherine and Travis Vale returned to Napa in 2010. Working mostly from their vineyard right off the Silverado Trail in Napa’s Oak Knoll appellation, the Cabs that have emerged from this operation have consistently punched way above their weight class (and price point).

98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, the 2019 shows its mettle as soon as the wine is poured into the glass. Flowing aromas of cinnamon, red cherry, allspice and molé. Lavishly textured with backbone that is true to its cabernet roots. Expressive dark flavors along with a peppermint-patty character that is so typical of Napa prevails throughout the mouth. Finishes with nice pepper and spice tones that play off the fruit and stick around well after the wine is swallowed. Napa Cabs this good at this price don't come around too often! Drink it now and over the next decade.

2021 DOMAINE DU DRAGON
COTES-DE-PROVENCE ROSE
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

Enter the Dragon or perhaps Return of the Dragon. Either title based on Provencal Rose would probably earn us a good ass kicking if Bruce Lee were still alive. Then again, he might well be impressed because this wine definitely is not Like Water ;-).

Located in the prime Var region area of Draguignan, this is prototype Southern French Rose. Made with almost equal portions of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault and Cabernet Sauvignon grown a mere 20 miles from the sea. Soulful and very Provençal aromas. Good subtlety and finesse with aromas of strawberry, fennel, rosemary and a prominent "sea-smoke" note. Plenty of flavor, depth and detail, all which culminate with a lively, very stony finish. This wine really screams for seafood, especially fish on the grill and dressed with nice olive oil and herbs.

2019 REGALEALI SICILIA ROSSO
PERRICONE 'GUARNACCIO'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

92 Points – Vinous… One of Sicily’s obscure wonders, the Perricone grape is not cultivated much in current times. When it is produced, it is often blended in with Nero D’Avola. The Tasca family has been utilizing this grape since 1954 and recently started bottling it on its own. It is human nature to want to compare. To me, given its vibrancy, maybe it is akin to Barbera.

Irresistible strawberry and mulberry shine while undertones of mint, cocoa, licorice and balsamico join in. Flavorful with plenty of grip, there is ample vivacity and suaveness to go along with deceptive depth and length. Impeccable with Pasta alla Norma, grilled pork drizzled with a good olive oil or hard Italian cheeses.

2020 DOMAINE 3 CELLIERS
CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE BLANC
$33.99 BTL./$407.88 CASE

Domaine 3 Celliers emerged upon the split of famed Domaine Saint-Benoit when Marc Cellier retired and his three sons took over the land, thus creating this estate. Marc’s partner in Saint-Benoit went on to take his portion of the land and created his own Domaine. Over the last decade, these wines have been very fine indeed and this is the first time for the White CNDP to arrive into our market.

The 2020 Chateauneuf Blanc is off the rails great for its price point. 70% Clairette Blanche, 20% Grenache Blanc, 5% each of Bourboulenc and Roussane, this wine jumps from the glass with mandarin, white peach, white flower, anise and pepper notes. Starts out very plucky then fans out on the palate, building unctuous tones all reined in by crisp citrus and mineral notes. Very engaging now but can also age for a decade and become very different.

2020 ARMAS DE GUERRA BIERZO
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

From the oldest winery in Spain’s Bierzo region, this estate does wonderful under 15-dollar wines that are a gateway of enjoyment for the Mencia grape.

Unoaked with vivid tones of cherry pit, dark chocolate, pepper and soft roasted herbs, the essence of Bierzo’s terroir is on full display with this bursting and transparent red. All of the components seem to build as the wine opens in the glass and entice you to take a sip that is pristine, medium-bodied and instantaneously quaffable. More importantly, this wine also shows wonderful intensity from the use of old vine (50+ years) fruit that all culminates in the succulent, minerally finish which expands nicely and wants you to take another sip. Enjoy this excellent, very individual Spanish red with sausages, Serrano ham or even a fish done in a tomato-based broth.

2021 EVESHAM WOOD
BLANC DE PUIT SEC 'EOLA-AMITY'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

With the recent passing of Russ Raney, we really ought to take a moment and realize the influence that he unleased on the Willamette Valley and Oregon wine. Not only did he make damn fine Pinot Noirs, he was also a leader in white wines, especially those from his Puit Sec vineyard. Since 2010 his protégé Erin Nuccio has owned and run the winery impeccably and continues to carry on Russ’s giant legacy very well.

The 2021 Blanc de Puit Sec is from the estate Puit Sec vineyard and is Pinot Gris based with a number of other known and lesser-known aromatic varietals. Almost reverberating aromas of powdery orange and tangerine scents combine with exotic sub-scents of lemon balm, spice, hints of lime-blossom and a kiss of lychee. Confident, elegant and dry with swanky fruit flavors of white peach, citrus and wet stone kept in perfect balance by the exacting and zingy acidity. Enjoy this beautiful offering with salmon, trout and young goat cheese.
