2020 PASCAL JANVIER
COTEAUX-DU-LOIR BLANC
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Do not adjust your eyes; we didn't make a mistake in the spelling of Loir. There is actually a Loir River, a tributary of the Loire and a region known as Coteaux Du Loir and to make matters more confusing, it is located in the Loire Valley region. Mon Dieu!

Truth be told, this cool wine is from one of France's most unknown, but highly respected growers. Many of Pascal Janvier’s wines find their way on to France's finest restaurant wine lists. The appellations of Coteaux-du-Loir and Jasnières have longed held a place of esteem in the wine history of France. 100% Chenin Blanc fermented dry. Picture a ballerina sporting an orange mohawk. Elegant, refined and poised but with insane energy and attitude to boot. Exotic pineapple, smoke, lanolin, sapoda, tons of white fig. Lovely detailed mineral comes along for the ride, especially on the long finish that reveals lots of expanse. Drink over the next 4-6 years and give it a go with a nice piece of salmon.

2021 AMEZTOI TXAKOLINA
RUBENTIS ROSE
$22.99 BTL./$275.88 CASE

My annual ‘pain in the ass’ Rose is back! Okay, so it is so damn delicious every year but it is also the one that people almost go into convulsions when they are unable to grab their bottles of this slightly, naturally fizzy pink wine from just outside San Sebastien.

The new vintage of this blitzing dry, tingly, fizzy pink is here so yinz will want to be quick ‘n at to get your bottles. Made from Hondarribi Zuri (50%) and Hondarribi Beltza (50%) grapes, and usually just under 11% alcohol, Ameztoi's Rubentis is a visceral pink wine experience. Resoundingly fresh and shimmering, detailed and precise with perfumed crushed stone, seashore, cranberry, cherry-pit and lime-blossom scents that follow into an active, pleasing, bracing, vibrant, chalky and elevated mouth-feel. Truly a wine that will undoubtedly make anyone happy! Drink it now, drink it often, it is a marvelous accompaniment to sushi or other fresh seafood.

Located in the heart of the Haut Medoc and not far from Margaux and St-Julien, this workaday Bordeaux is a prototype, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 60% Merlot blend. Aromatic full spice follows dark fruit, violet, undertones of tealeaf and cassis.

Dramatic with sneaky fullness, flavorful, nicely layered aspects shine from the quality, depth and charm of the 2015 vintage. Broad texture, nice earth and movement. Very Medoc, with its elegantly poised finish. Punches well above its weight class at 17-bucks. Drink now – 2025. Delicious with prime rib, game like elk or venison but also simpler fare like lentil soup or a burger.

2019 MARCEL RICHAUD CAIRANNE
$44.99 BTL. - LIMITED

Along with L’Oratoire St-Martin, Domaine Richaud is regarded as one of the Kings of Cairanne. When Oratoire sold in 2020, M. Richaud snagged the throne for himself. At first, you may look at this and say, forty-five bucks for Cairanne? Are you crazy?!?! Okay, so I’ve been crazy since at least 1981 if not earlier, but the fact of the matter is that this Rhone wine will kick the daylights out of many Gigondas and Chateauneuf at the same price. A wine like this is the reason why Cairanne finally received its own appellation status in 2015.

50% Grenache 25% Mourvèdre 10% Syrah 5% Carignan 5% Counoise 5% Cinsault, this youthful velvety beast soars. Sinister aromas from this complex blend pull no punches. A sensuous, dense, exotic nose sports woodsmoke, espresso, blueberry, game and underlying white pepper and roses. Deeply penetrating, very youthful and very soulful. The texture has a smoothness below all of the grip with its velvet and well-honed qualities, but not to worry, this is true essence of the Rhone and its varietals. More black olive and black pepper arrive as the wine opens. Poised and fresh with submerged tannins, although the sculpted muscle of this wine really appears on the superb, everlasting full finish. This is a youngster that has a rebellious streak right now. Give it until end of 2023 and drink it through 2033.

2019 L'ISOLA DEI PROFUMI
SICILIA ROSSO
$8.99 BTL./$107.88 CASE

From Sicily and Italy, this fun honestly expressed wine is a blend of Nero D'Avola and Perricone, two native varietals.

Perfection only exists as an idea or dream, but for an every-evening 9-buck bangin' red, this comes damn close. Fleshy, full of fruit, tangy earth and sea-driven scents, this spicy, mouth-tingling red is perfect with the usual suspects, pizza, red sauce pasta or a burger.
