2017 RESERVE ST-DOMINQUE
VENTOUX ROUGE
$11.99 BTL./$143.88 CASE

FRIDAY ZOOM TASTING FEATURE WINE! Perhaps the most enthralling development in Provence and the Rhone Valley is the upswing of fine producers in and around Mont Ventoux. People like Philippe Gimel at Saint-Jean du Barroux, the Chaudiere brothers at Pesquie and others are unearthing and displaying the terroir that has been hidden from the wine world.

Made by superb young Chateauneuf-du-Pape producer Domaine St-Dominique this 100% Grenache wine is 100% gulpable. Grown on the south side of Mont Ventoux it distinguishes itself from Cotes-du-Rhone due to its elevation and freshness. From the knockout 2017 vintage, this aromatic red has so much personality! Ultra-vivid red and black fruit, peppery spice, roasted earth and garrigue as well as a mouth-filling palate make this one of those reds to have around for just about anything or anyone that comes your way. For those who need score enhancement, this has 91 POINTS from The Wine Advocate.

2018 WALTER SCOTT PINOT NOIR
'COMBE VERTE'
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

It is last call on this perennially popular Pinot from one of Eola-Amity’s apex producers. In case you haven’t heard, 2017 and 2018 are top-drawer Oregon vintages and certainly the finest since 2010. I always hesitate to call this merely Willamette Valley because of the quality of vineyards, farming and winemaking that goes into the production of them. They are that serious and impeccable values.

A bona fide Willamette blend coming from five impressive vineyards (Sequitur from Ribbon Ridge which is owned by Mike Etzel of Beaux Freres and Red Hills Estate in Dundee along with Lewman, Soujourner (Eola-Amity) then the final piece being some old vine Freedom Hill). Sensuous aromatics with an impressive core of poised fruit, engaging smoke and spice all follows through to a silky texture that expands nicely and maintains vibrancy throughout. Lengthy and very promising, this seriously delectable and seamless Pinot is an unmitigated heist! Very enjoyable now but this will also easily age and develop for 8+ years.

2018 PAZO BARRANTES ALBARINO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Pazo Barrantes is a twelve-acre property in Galacia’s Val do Salnes area that is owned by legendary Rioja producer Marques de Murietta. The white wines that are emerging from this estate are nothing short of fabulous. 2018 is no exception and if you love this grape varietal or crisp dry white wines, it is a must try.

Persistent aromas of grapefruit and orange, with stone and sea aspects, along with hints of herbs and subtle spice come forward immediately. Broad and relaxed in the mouth with fleshy tangerine and pear notes filling out the crisp lemon. The finish lingers, fruit filled and refreshing calling you back for another glass. Try this wine with many selections of seafood and especially steamed mussels or a parmesan-crusted halibut.

2017 DASHE ZINFANDEL
'VINEYARD SELECT'
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Dashe Cellars is a boutique, Sonoma winery that quickly rose through the ranks as producers of some of California's most formidable Zins. Michael Dashe gained his experience by working with The Supreme Zinfandel Alien-Being, Paul Draper at Ridge, then in 1996 he decided to branch out on his own and from day one, and these Zins with the whimsical labels have been ultra-magnificent.

Vintage 2017 marked the first time that Dashe has ever produced a Zinfandel blended from various areas. Coming from Sonoma, Clarksburg and Contra Costa, it is 80% Zinfandel, 9% Teraldego, 5% Tannat, 3% Mourvedre and 3% Petite Sirah all fermented separately. All at once, it is poised, powerful with raspberry and chocolate up front with allspice, cracked pepper and fine herbs riding shotgun. In the mouth, it has a sultry velvety mouthfeel that expands and flows into a long, luscious, chiming finish that leaves the raspberry and chocolate-spice flavors lingering in your mouth long after you swallow.

This has bistro wine written all over it! Southwest France is home to numerous appellations that feature quality wines made from a myriad of grape varietals. 2016 SESTI 'MONTELECCIO'
TOSCANA ROSSO
$21.99 BTL./$263.88 CASE

Sesti is a luxurious, high-end Brunello producer who makes wines that are very sought after by collectors and Tuscan wine aficionados. While their top wines easily cross the three-digit mark, they also make a terrific wine from 100% Sangiovese within the borders of Montalcino.

Monteleccio, which is the Italian version of the Latin name of Montalcino, meaning hill of the holm oaks, this wine gives a Sesti experience for a nice price. Younger vines and aged one year in 3000 liter barrels and traditionally formed, this red is harmonious and real with red berry fruit, roasted sage, violet and rich earth notes. There is a beautiful note of purity once this wine hits the mouth, with a core of ripe cherry, Tuscan herbs and fine tannins that are both ripe and yet add a beautiful frame for the pure fruit. This is a wine that while delicious alone, really croons with food, especially roasted meat dishes, pasta with sage and butter with or without mushroom preparations.

Toussaints, meaning All Saints, is 2 acres with loam and limestone. Virtual center of appellation and center slope. Definitely displaying the darker side of Beaune, marionberry and strawberry reveal themselves at first then give way to spices, particularly coriander and licorice. 2016 REMO FARINA AMARONE
$39.99 BTL./$239.94 - SIX PACK

In existence since the 16th century, the latest generation of the Farina family pays respect to modern technique for some of their wines but when it comes to the historic line of wines such as this particular Amarone, it is all about history. From its farming, production and even the label that was the design in 1968, this estate pays such attention to detail and produces wines that are remarkable for their price points, especially when the majority of Amarone wines all seem to start at 50 and more.

What is most impressive about this classy Amarone is the incredible balance that is maintained from the moment the first aromas of rich fruit hit you to the long lasting finish. Classic notes of exotic spice laden plum, dried cherry, dark Valrhona chocolate, and roasted almonds roll out of the glass. That same velvety decadence fills the mouth with lush berry fruit but is all balanced on a pinhead with fine-grained and ripe tannins that form an elegant structure and a record flavor-filled finish. While this is so appealing now and could be had with aged cheeses and roast beast of some sort, make sure you put some away and enjoy over the next decade.
