2017 LAVANTUREUX CHABLIS
[reg. $32.99]
SPECIAL - $23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Located in the village of Lignorelles in the northern portion of Chablis, Domaine Lavantureux was founded in 1979 and with the higher elevation than around the village of the Chablis this estate produces magnificent Chablis from top to bottom. Even though the family produces some Premiers and a Grand Cru, the real treasures of this estate are their AC Chablis and Petit Chablis wines.

The 2017 Chablis is akin to lighting off rockets and fireworks because it is very explosive and electrocuting juice! Naked and unoaked Chablis, if diamonds could have aromas of perfume, this would be it. Pristine, classic Chablis aromas soar from the glass and feature gunsmoke, lemon, gentle hints of juniper and seashells. In the mouth it is precisely and brightly detailed, much delineated and with compact richness in the mid-palate. Wiry and finely tuned with minerally zip on the edges and on the expressive, long and steely finish. Lavantureaux’s Chablis wines are nothing but the truth! Drink this fabulous white over the next 5 years with oysters, sole prepared in a light cream sauce or even a smoked ham. If you like Chablis, jump on this now - it will sell out quickly.

2015 ET FILLE PINOT NOIR
WILLAMETTE VALLEY
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Et Fille (translated to ‘and daughter’) has been in existence since 2003 when Howard and Jessica Mozeico started the operation as a father and daughter tandem. Howard was always an enthusiast who started making wine in his garage in the 1980s. He and daughter Jessica left their jobs and became co-winemakers, founding this outstanding yet somewhat of an unknown superstar estate. Sadly Howard passed away in 2017 but Jessica has forged onward, continuing the ‘and daughter’ legacy for her own young daughter.

A true to form Willamette Valley blend, this wine comes from six different sites (Yamhill-Carlton, Eola-Amity and VanDuzer Corridor) and clocks in at a mere 12.2% alcohol. Cool toned yet having the substance of this full vintage, the earth and spice balance out the cool plum and smoke aspects. Rather ethereal on the palate, nice acids intertwine and make for something very pure with a sneaky underbelly of backbone. This Pinot is very accessible at the moment but can continue to develop nicely for a few more years as well.

2016 CASA LAPOSTOLLE
CABERNET SAUVIGNON 'ALEXANDRE'
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Growing up in the world of viticulture, Alexandra Marnier-Lapostolle and her husband Cyril create stellar wines that combine French expertise with superb Chilean terroir. These days their son Charles and winemaker Andrea Leon are behind these outstanding wines.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon and the grapes for this selection comes from a block that has almost 100 year old vines. Given the quality of the vineyards and top expertise in the vineyard, this beautifully proportioned Cab is way above what Chile is known to produce which is usually akin to listening to a Lionel Ritchie box set. Blueberry, underlying cassis, dusty clay tones, pekoe, tobacco and fine herbs shine on the nose. Dreamy, sultry and all about texture in the mouth, this classy & sassy red is layered with lots of movement and various complex flavor profiles. Drawn-out, lingering and possessing excellent substance on the back end, we simply cannot believe just how stellar it at such an absurdly fair price! Enjoy it over the next 10-12 years, especially with a grilled steak slathered in herbs.

2017 JULES TAYLOR
GRUNER-VELTLINER
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

A tidal wave occurred within the wine world about 20 years ago with the Gruner Veltliner grape and Austrian wines in general. Sure enough, it spread throughout the world and we have been extremely fortunate to see some wonderful versions done in places other than German-speaking lands.

Jules Taylor is a small Marlborough, New Zealand producer and one in whose wines we will be featuring in upcoming episodes. First on the docket is her lovely, very expressive Gruner. A radiating palate-grabber that possesses shifting scents starting with honeysuckle and white pepper and then on to nectarine and crisp granny smith apple. Echoing natural briskness makes this a white wine of surprising complexity. Maintaining blazing freshness and a beautifully textured mouth-feel, it rolls into the finish that has an abundance of range and lingering aspects. Pair with an array of seafood, but have fun with this wine because it will compliment many different types of food and will admirably hold up to spicy dishes.

2016 FINCA VILLACRECES
RIBERA DEL DUERO 'PRUNO'
[reg. $25.99]
SPECIAL - $17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

Like many other Ribera del Duero estates, Finca Villacreces is quite young on paper. In 2004 after being purchased by the Anton family, they revitalized the vineyards all while ending long term contracts to which fruit was sold to other producers. Located in a very respectable neighborhood, this site is bordered on one side by Vega Sicilia and the other Pingus. Not too shabby of an address and one hell of a value.

For this 100% Tempranillo, the robust nature of the fruit is massaged into a structure that seduces the palate, caressing the tongue with an almost velvety texture. The presence of coolness, fresh-cut flowers, mineral, and creamy marionberry permeate from the glass. Texturally, this is typically formidable yet it is succulent, tender and chock full of exotic spice. Refined and gorgeous now, it will easily develop for 7-8 years as well.

2018 CHATEAU MALBAT
BORDEAUX ROUGE
$10.99 BTL./$131.88 CASE

Chateau Malbat is a delicious Right bank Bordeaux that follows its righteous path of over-delivering and especially more given that it's from the luscious 2018 vintage.

An excellent petite chateau from the south-east end of Bordeaux, this is an area famed for rural farming rather than 'grand chateaux' production. Classy Bordeaux with pronounced Cabernet and Merlot aromas and flavors of smoked mineral, violet, cherry and a touch of tobacco. Medium-bodied, full of flesh, direct and well made. Enjoy over the next year or two with duck dishes.

2018 BERA BRACHETTO D'ASTI
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

An alternative to the Piedmont region’s delicious Moscato, Brachetto is a fizzy red that is made essentially in the same style but having different characteristics, Bera excels in both Moscato and Brachetto.

Considering that we are approaching V-Day, this fun wine possesses the color of love, a gorgeous dark raspberry hue, with pretty aromas of wild strawberries and aromatic spices. Slightly sweet, slightly bubbly, and very thirst quenching and a perfect accompaniment to fruit tarts, cookies, or by itself. You can drink it out of the bottle, get a couple straws, or just pour it over one another. Now that's romantic!

2017 PILLOT BEAUNE PREMIER CRU
'LES BUCHEROTTES'
$59.99 BTL./$719.88 CASE

Many of you know and love Laurent Pillot’s white Burgundy wines but lately, we are even more excited over what he has been accomplishing with his red wines. Through marriage, Laurent Pillot scored red wine vineyards from several grand villages within the Cotes-de-Beaune. Boucherottes is a Premier Cru vineyard in southern portion of the Beaune appellation and a stone’s throw from, Pommard. This beautiful parcel planted between 1966 and 1996 presents a terroir that is warm and plush, on a slightly stony, brown limestone soil adjacent to the Pommard 'Boucherottes' Premier Cru. Laurent has a mere 1.13 acres of this Cru and usually about 200 cases are ever produced.

A great vintage, 2017 is definitely a Burgundy lovers’ vintage due to its finite detail, purity and ultimate finesse, all of which shows off very well with this wine. Glorious expansive quality, there is a classic wild fruit and earth component to this wine yet it is the old vine depth which is impressive and will come through in droves as it ages. Creamy, still quite feminine, very stylish and sultry – almost teasing to the point of being an early drinker. Just when you feel this, it gains spine and substance on the compact yet very long finish. Quite lengthy and chocolatey and very typical of this site I’d give this wine until 2023 and drink through 2031.
