2017 LE BATTISTELLE
SOAVE CLASSICO 'MONTESEI'
$11.99 BTL./$71.94 - SIX PACK

At The Cellar Door we are always striving to introduce new wines from many areas and what we love especially is showing everyone wines that are from producers that are on a real upswing and yet to be broadly discovered. While we adore the Soave stylings of Pra, Gini and Suavia, there is a plethora of wonderful producers in this zone. Up until 2002, the Dal Bosco family sold their grapes to the local co-op and soon after created Le Battistelle with their many parcels around Brognoligo in Soave.

The Montesei is a playful, dry, very enticing effort that is a hell of a deal. In fact, all three of these are great deals due to the wonders of Pancetta directly importing them and avoiding a national-importer extra layer mark-up. Made from 100% of the Garganega grape, this Soave is from a selection of the estate’s sites possesses rushing spring water like aromas that deliver apple and lime tones with fine mineral. Crisp, forward, invigorating, ripe and imminently slurpable. Drink with hors d’oeuvres, lighter seafood or as an aperitif.

2017 LE BATTISTELLE
SOAVE CLASSICO 'BATTISTELLE'
$14.99 BTL./$89.94 - SIX PACK

One of two single vineyard sites, the eponymously named Le Battistelle Vineyard is grown on steep slopes with ample basalt soil with micro-particles and pebbles within. Like all of the Battistelle Soave wines, this selection is made from 100% Garganega and unoaked.

Sensuous, sassy and suave notes of creamy pear and fleshy tangerine bounce off crisp minerality, white flowers and tangy Meyer lemon creating a slow building wave in the glass. Round yet focused on the palate with a crisp and clean lingering finish of bright citrus and building mineral and spice. A game winning goal with pan-seared halibut, lemon-infused chicken or fresh goat cheeses.

2017 LE BATTISTELLE
SOAVE CLASSICO 'ROCCOLO DEL DURLO'
$19.99 BTL./$119.94 - SIX PACK

The Roccolo del Durlo Vineyard is impressive with its volcanic, basalt rock soils, steep terraces and very old Garganega wines. No oak is utilized here however, 48 hours of skin contact followed by aging on the lees with batonnage practiced as well. Not only does this wine drink well early, it has excellent aging potential and goes with an abundance of cuisines.

Beautiful aromatics swirl from the glass with notes of mineral, lemon, white flowers and mushroom. There is a deep level of old-vine concentration that is mouth-coating and rich yet it is bone dry, with excruciatingly refreshing citrus notes of lemon, lime, tangerine, and even more mineral with the earth lingering beneath. This wine is a testament to old vines and beautiful craftsmanship and knowing when to let your amazing site just speak for itself. Have with salmon or a seafood risotto dish.

From one of Amarone and Italy's most important addresses, Masi's Valpolicella is a non-ripasso version that is chock-a-block full of violet, explosive and vibrant red raspberry fruit and a tangy long finish. A delightful and vastly underrated wine to go with stuffed shells or lasagna.

2017 TEDESCHI VALPOLICELLA
RIPASSO 'SAN ROCCO'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

San Rocco is made using an ancient winemaking technique called "ripasso", which consists of taking freshly pressed Valpolicella Classico juice and adding in the rich/raisined grapes generally used for the noble Amarone. The ripasso method brings an exotic quality to the wine that adds to its allure, bringing a level of richness and intensity that is perfectly balanced by the fresh and bright berry notes of the newly fermented Valpolicella juice. Tedeschi has been making this top-end Valpolicella Ripasso since 1976 and their version represents one of the finest wine values that we work with.

From a top vintage that has plenty of power the 2015 San Rocco offers luscious dark cherry, plum, Indian spice, candied violet and dark chocolate. Full bodied and intense with great balance and supple, refined structure that supports the material then follows into to a persistent finish that is full of mouth-coating complexity. Enjoy now over the next 5-6 years with a great rich pasta dish to grilled meat.
