2016 RESONANCE PINOT NOIR
WILLAMETTE VALLEY
[Reg. $41.99]
SPECIAL - $27.99 BTL./$167.94 - SIX PACK
93 PTS - WINE SPECTATOR

Amazingly, they have kept this smashing deal on this prolific Oregon Pinot made by a French master over to the introduction of the ravishing 2016 vintage. Owned by famed Burgundy negociant/grower Louis Jadot, it hasn’t taken this team much time to push themselves into the top tier of Oregon Pinots. It also doesn’t hurt that longtime Jadot frontman/winemaker, Jacques Lardiere is in Oregon and overseeing the viticultural program and they have two older vineyards, Resonance & Decouverte (formerly known as Gherts) as the soul of this Pinot.

Captivating perfume builds from the glass as it sits, leading to lavender, violet, underlying strawberry licorice and pekoe/cinnamon notes. Crunchy dark tones combine nicely with virtual Burgundian sensibilities of smoky, floral aspects, turned earth and strawberry. Graceful, layered and sensuous in the mouth with engaging exotic spices - this penetrates deeply, but is true to its Pinot Noir roots. Lots of lift and suppleness arrive on the finish that provide fantastic balance and pleasantly hanging around for quite a while on the long finish. Drink this beauty over the next 10-12 years.

2014 RODA RIOJA 'SELA'
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Hmmmmmm, now where does Roda fit in the Rioja spectrum? Certainly not the uber traditionalist like La Rioja Alta but also not slick and modern oak juice stylings of Finca Allende, these wines have always had dignity, refinement and detail since we first starting working with them over 20 years ago. A small estate that started in the late 80s and one where prestige and accolades arrived early on and despite its youth as a winery, the vines used for the estate’s wines have an average age of over 50 years. Roda owns twelve separate parcels of land, which vary in exposure, elevation, and soil and meticulous farming, impeccable winemaking and major attention to detail is what makes this awesome Bodega not only thrive but have allowed it to become one of Spain’s finest and most sought after.

Sela is the first Rioja in the lineup of Roda’s superb roster. 93% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano and 2% Garnacha, it is the essence of the elegance of Rioja maintaining all of the character and class that one finds in these top wines of the area. Don't be fooled into thinking that this is just elegance alone, it possesses plenty of punch and generous aromas of raspberry, spice and roses opening to a mouth full of cherry, plum, mocha and herb flavors. Cutting a sleek, handsome profile with fine balance, it finishes long and dry, with well-defined, earth accents. Drink through 2022+.

2015 COL D'ORCIA SPEZIERI ROSSO
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

From Brunello di Montalcino maestro Col D’Orcia’s property that overlooks the Orcia River, this Rosso embodies the soul and personality of what an everyday drinker from Southern Tuscany ought to be...and then lifting it up to another level with the grand scale 2015 vintage.

85% Sangiovese, 15% Ciliegiolo, it is mouth-filling, yet smooth and clean with ample scents and flavors of wild cherry, cassis, sage and pepper notes. Lots of character and depth, this wine is more than just a great Thursday evening pasta wine. Although it works well, it can move up into classier fare given its pedigree. At $13.99, one should order by the trunkload and enjoy it often.
