2014 OWEN ROE YAKIMA RED
[reg. $29.99]
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Within Owen Roe's popular and diverse line-up of wines, David O'Reilly consistently has stated that this wine is always one of his most important and the prototype of his vision for Owen Roe. Not a mere blend of leftovers, this red that’s made up of 34% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 51% Merlot comes from five of the Yakima Valley’s most prominent vineyard sites (DuBrul, Elerding, Outlook, Red Willow and Union Gap).

In true Owen Roe fashion, this is full-bodied, yet maintains vibrancy without ever becoming burdensome and coats the mouth with velvety dark plum, raspberry, warm spice and chocolate covered cherry flavors. What is most notable is that even though this is decidedly decadent, the elevation and vibrancy in the middle palate and complex potpourri of aromas that come from these chosen sites that are located in a high elevation and cooler area of the Yakima Valley. Here, the nighttime temperatures allow for longer, slower fruit maturation in the initial material, which follows through to delicious juice in the glass. This red begs for braised oxtail, slow-roasted leg of lamb or beef tenderloin.

2012 THREE WINE COMPANY CARIGNANE
'LUCCHESI VINEYARD'
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

Three Wine Company is the venture of famed Sonoma wine vet Matt Cline. If the name sounds familiar, it is because Matt was the winemaker at Cline Cellars and has taken his talents over to Contra Costa where he is making exquisite wines. Way back in the day I had the chance to judge at the Dallas Morning News wine competition. Master of Wine Doug Frost showed me the combination of Cline’s Carignane with Texas barbecue and I was instantly hooked. It also came to be that this offering became one of my favorite California wines and it makes sense that Matt Cline would continue his legacy with this grape very well.

From a single vineyard called Lucchesi in Contra Costa County, Three Wine’s Carignane invokes aspects of Southern France and of Catalonia in NE Spain - but is still very California. Very animalé with strawberry and thyme characteristics shining on the nose while in the mouth it is savage, ripe and mouth filling; blue-collar juice! Dry, red-tinged and full of smoked earth on the saturated, full finish. Go out and find some spicy, barbecued ribs or pulled pork. NOW!!! Drink over the next 5-7 years.

2016 CAMERON GIULIANO
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

What a nice surprise to have access to this Oregon white wine just in time for Thanksgiving. Usually this is sold out by now and when it is around it is always one of my favorite local wines to pair with the bird.

Giuliano is Cameron’s classic Northern Italian-influenced blend of five different white grape varieties (Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Auxerrois and Moscato). Quite direct and after some aeration, the aromatics take over on the nose as well as in the mouth and show the mark of a fantastic white - minerality! Ginger, mango with some fleshy citrus fill in the focused freshness and wash over the palate completely. As the wine opens, glimpses of earth and even more mouthwatering citrus join in. Along with the usual holiday fare, this rollercoaster Oregon white wine finishes spicy, broad, full, rich and precise and matches up exquisitely with salmon or other fleshy, full-flavored fishes. Bellissimo!!!
