SPECIAL FRIDAY SIPS - POTTERY & SPANISH WINE
With our new location, The Cellar Door is able to partner with talented and skilled friends to "Create Community". On our website we have links to our "community" and are inviting them to participate in Friday Sips to share their talents and passions. We started last week with a very high energy afternoon with Cookbook Professional Diane Morgan who shared her amazing array of culinary accomplishments – beautifully photographed in over a dozen published cook books. (She will be back December 14, 2012 MARK YOUR CALENDAR.)

Today we welcome pottery maven Sarah Davis, who will be on hand to share examples of her innovative and beautiful work. As part of her presentation we asked Sarah and hubby Brian to give us a favorite wine region for "Cellar Door Bryan" to select our tasting wines . Brian had suggestions, but Sarah stated Spanish wines...she gets her choice on this one! Come taste the three devastatingly-delicious wines listed below. Click on the link to check out Sarah's Blog:

2008 BLAS SERRANO RIBERA DEL DUERO"PHYLOS"
$14.99 BTL./$179.88 CASE

One of the fun discoveries for us in 2012 from Spain's Ribera Del Duero region is Bodegas de Blas Serrano. Farmed at 2500 feet in elevation, the shallow crumbly chalk over limestone soils here are what drives the wines. It also doesn't hurt that the wines are made by Sophie Kuhn who studied in Burgundy and made wine at Château Cheval Blanc in St-Émilion. The Phylos is 100% Tínta del Pais (Tempranillo) and from 30-50 year old vines. Aged for a short 4 months in used French oak, this wine displays the freshness along with the presence of depth that Ribera Del Duero is well-known for. The aim with the Phylos is to make a smooth, mouth-filling, fruit-forward Tempranillo with just a touch of barrel ageing to soften the wine further and make it ready for drinking now. The nose is fresh and fruity with aromas of currants and violet plus a touch of clove and mocha spiciness. Mouth-filling, medium to full-bodied with flavors of black cherries, spiced plums and crushed red fruit complimented by a harmonious and well-rounded finish. Drink with grilled sausages or a slow-roasted pork loin.

2007 BLAS SERRANO RIBERA DEL DUERO CRIANZA
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

Blas Serrano's house specialty is this Crianza wine that really gives off way too much complexity and character for such an outstanding price. Like the Phylos, the grape is 100% Tínta del Pais, however the Crianza is from 50+ year old vines and 14 months in oak. Flamenco in a glass, this broad red reveals sexy, polished and refined tones of blackberries mashed with strawberry, balsamico, coriander and intermittent espresso tones. In the mouth it is layered and palate-staining with excellent depth and personality. Spreading out nicely in the mouth as it moves from front to back and as it opens, the persistent red and black berry qualities shine through. The finish is suave, poised and really shows excellent persistence. A killer drop of neo-classical Spanish red wine that really cries out for lamb chops. Drink over the next 8-10 years.

2011 A COROA VALDEORRAS GODELLO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

We have your new favorite white wine…you just haven't tasted it yet!

The region of Valdeorras in Western Spain is fast becoming a hot spot for white wines that reflect their amiable climate and varied soils. Adegas A Coroa is one of the area's exciting producers. Angel Lopez and his family own 10 acres of Godello vines around their winery situated at 1500 feet above sea level with the soils being a virtual slate beach.

The 2011 is utterly gorgeous. Intense aromas of lilies, ginger, mineral and pronounced mandarin dominate the nose. Vinous, energetic and electric in the mouth, it moves and seduces all senses. The finish is mouth-watering and with substantially long revealing powdery fruit and stoniness. Illuminating, rich and very dry, have this with substantial seafood such as sole, salmon or lobster.
