There is no more succinct way to put it: Marco Ricasoli is a badass - and his wines are, too! We have been working with this cat's Chianti wines for almost 15 years and have yet to be disappointed. Based in Gaiole in Chianti, Marco produces wines from his small estate that are exhilarating from top to bottom.

Something really fun for summer (and beyond) is this riveting Toscana Rose. Honestly, this wine should be called Chianti Classico Rosato since the grapes all come from the specific single vineyard of San Marcellino within the Classico zone. Alas, there is no such designation but nonetheless, it is flavorful, distinguished and full of pleasure. 90% Sangiovese 5% Canaiolo, 5% Merlot and only about 800 cases produced for the world. Consistently hailed as one of Italy's finest pink wines, there is ample aromas of bing cherry, savory herbs, lilac and spiced earth. Full-flavored yet very luminating and brisk with wonderful extension; enjoyable now and over the next 12-18 months. Fine now with fuller seafood dishes, an intense pecorino cheese or hold it until Thanksgiving and drink it with your turkey. Mamma Mia!!

Rock Star rosé, Gattinara masters Antoniolo are the minds behind this terrific Rosé and if you've ever experienced their great red wines, you'll realize that they aren't going to ever skimp on quality. 100% Nebbiolo from the Costa della Sesia area of Northern Piedmont near Gattinara and Ghemme, this bursting pink is a real reflection not only of the grapes but its former marine, rocky/sandy soils. Aromatically expressive and glowing from the glass, there is an abundance of strawberry, mineral and savory fennel notes. In the mouth it is intense, elevated, super-succulent and inviting from start to finish. Pleasurable, but also very complex and no doubt that it'll drink well into next year; serve with grilled chicken, pork, halibut or toss a bunch down with a bunch of friends.

Long-time (10th generation) Sancerre producer with high-elevation sites in Verdigny and Sury en Vaux. Across the board, solid, delicious wines come from this estate's superb terroirs. In tasting through a line-up last week, the resounding standout was this stunning rosé. 100% Pinot Noir from chalky/clay soils. Cool as a cucumber, well-dressed and very much the charmer. Direct press gives an extra-level of intellect and mineral to the cherry-pit and lime fruit. Fully dry, tangy and tingling it's perfect for a vegetable plate, goat cheese or lighter seafood dishes.
