TEDESCHI AMARONE & VALPOLICELLA FRIDAY SIPS PART II WITH TODD 'PANCETTA' BACON

Today April 17 from 1:00 - 6:30

Like The Godfather Part II, there are times that the sequel is the equal of the original!! Back in November we had Todd ‘Pancetta’ Bacon here to pour selections from famed Amarone and Valpolicella producer Tedeschi and it was such an overwhelming success that we decided to feature a sequel of new releases today that are equally profound.

2012 TEDESCHI VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO SAN ROCCO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

5 generations in and led by the always gentlemanly Riccardo Tedeschi, over the last decade this estate has vaulted into the Veneto top-echelon along with the likes of Masi, Tommaso Bussola and others.

San Rocco is the estate's Ripasso, which consists of taking freshly pressed Valpolicella Classico juice and adding in the rich/raisined grapes generally used for the noble Amarone. The ripasso method brings an exotic quality to the wine that adds to its allure, bringing a level of richness and intensity that's perfectly balanced by the fresh and bright berry notes of the newly fermented Valpolicella juice. The newly arrived 2012 teems with luscious aromas of currant, blackberry and licorice, followed by hints of raisins and plums. Full-flavored as is expected with firm yet juicy tannins, it is a classic accompaniment to grilled or roasted meats and barbecued ribs. Year in and year out San Rocco is one of The Cellar Door's finest 20 dollar values and the latest version follows follows suit!

2013 TEDESCHI VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO 'LUCCHINE'
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

Tedeschi’s Lucchine is classic Valpolicella without being Ripasso so its profile is all about freshness and vibrancy. A total charmer possessing violet, vivacious dried raspberry fruit and a tangy, persistent finish, it is a perfect wine to go with hearty pasta dishes like stuffed shells or lasagna and consumed in copious amounts..

2011 TEDESCHI VALPOLICELLA SUPERIORE 'MATERNIGO'
$29.99 BTL./$179.94 - SIX PACK CASE

Earlier in the first quarter Riccardo Tedeschi was in the house and he presented this thrill ride of a new offering that comes from a very steep (1000 feet), seven acre single vineyard with superior terroir consisting of transposing pink marl and limestone. Done with traditional vinifcation without any drying of the grapes, this wine maintains a formidable, yet beautiful presence and is one that attains power through elegance.

Sensually red in color, it has a wide and embracing bouquet with scents of forest fruits, juniper, tobacco, prominent stony mineral and coffee essences. Seamless and sexy on the palate with generous fruit, well-balanced zest and spine and a finish that goes on and on! Beautiful with mushrooms or braised pork. Drink now over the next 10+ years. One last notch – the 2011 Tedeschi Maternigo also received the Tre Bicchieri Award from Gambero Rosso.

2010 TEDESCHI AMARONE
$49.99 BTL./$299.94 - SIX PACK CASE

When it comes to top-drawer Amarone, Tedeschi doesn't mess around. Simply put, this is one of the best addresses to score greatness and we are thrilled to be able to pour it today..at least until the bottle is gone!!

Full-on with classic dried flower and plum notes which surround alluring spiced earth and pepper notes. Texturally, this is traditionally-styled Amarone as it is dark, round and mouth-coating. Large-scaled throughout, this finishes with powerful ripe red tones, excellent length and a lingering cocoa note that pleasantly hangs around. There is always accessible aspects to this wine and it really calls out for osso bucco, but in reality, it should go to the cellar to sleep for 3 years and then be enjoyed through 2027 and beyond.
