2013 SEVEN HILLS CABERNET SAUVIGNON
COLUMBIA VALLEY
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Walla Walla-based Casey McClellan's Seven Hills wines are phenomenal for their price points and consistently receive numerous accolades. Long established, the wines continue to provide immense delight and character yet like so many others, are not necessarily the "trendy flavor of the moment". Something further to consider is that we are in the trenches everyday tasting a huge cross section of what is produced in Washington. For better or worse, and almost weekly we are offered some hollow-poorly made 40-50 dollar Washington red, from young vines that will never grow up to have as much character as what is done from this stalwart producer.

Made from fruit from Walla Walla, Red Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke Slope and Yakima appellations, what is most notable about the 2013 Columbia Valley Cab is its depth and marked forward flavors. Red plum, red currant and blackberry fruit spun with maple, spice, tobacco and a touch of toast coming from a thoughtful use of French oak build up as soon as it is poured. Plenty of power without lacking the signature smoothness that Casey is noted for; there is abundant "silky grip" and a roundness on the palate, which carries over nicely to a lingering, well-honed finish. Quite an irresistible steal for 20 bucks and will drink and develop well for 5-7+ years.

2012 SEVEN HILLS MALBEC
WALLA WALLA
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

Often times Bryan has been known to cringe at the thought of Washington Malbec because, quite honestly, most of it is overoaked plum juice. Casey McClellan and Seven Hills have been committed to making Malbec for quite some time, and the results continue to build upon past successes and the 2012 is the finest to date.

Made from 100% Malbec from Casey’s home vineyard, McClellan Estate and Minnick Vineyard, this Malbec shows the silky, mouth-coating seductive qualities of Walla Walla in lieu of the bombastic, overproduced versions that sometimes come from Argentina. Don’t be misled, this is certainly a full-throttle, bold Washington wine delivering scents of licorice, smoked raspberry, fig and rose petal that intermingle with sandalwood and vanilla notes that show wonderful refinement. The palate is nicely integrated, velvety and possessing good concentration. The finish is sleek, lasting and incredibly full of life. Drink over the next decade.

2012 SEVEN HILLS CIEL DU CHEVAL
CABERNET BLEND
$42.99 BTL./$515.88 CASE

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, located in the Red Mountain appellation and founded in 1975, is one of Washington's oldest sites and must be included at top of the list of Washington's grandest and most important vineyards.

The 2012 Seven Hills Ciel du Cheval is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot and 9% Cabernet Franc. Already very complex in its youth, this luxurious blend reveals prominent blueberry, raspberry and red earth. The use of oak here is intelligent with scents of tobacco and nutmeg soon to arrive. The texture possesses lots of movement and voluptuous qualities with a structured, solid middle, the maintaining a stacked, packed and long, substantial finish. Youthfully vibrant yet very ageworthy, expect a good 12-15+ years of drinking enjoyment.
