2014 ANDRE NEVEU SANCERRE
'LE GRAND FRICAMBAULT'
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

Profanity cannot describe the greatness of the Sancerre wines from Domaine Andre Neveu. One of the grand names and masters of the region, the wines at Domaine Neveu are based around the sites where they hail from. These are wines that show that while Sancerre is Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc is NOT Sancerre.

The Grands Fricambault site is rich with silex soil (very hard, almost diamond-like rocks) vs. old seabed Kimmeridgean marl. Wines from this site are quite boisterous in their aromatic profile, being frontal and not holding much back. Kinda like the great and loquacious Richard Sherman. Firmly focused, piercing scents that are more rock-dust, steel, smoke and gunflint instead of seashore aromas. Pink grapefruit tones ride alongside touches of lime and herbs pulling everything together to a fine, precise and steely finish of old vine penetration and length. This selection is a perfect match for grilled salmon on a cedar board.

2014 ANDRE NEVEU SANCERRE
'LES LONGUES FINS'
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

Four different cuvees are produced chez Neveu, single parcels reflecting this famed area's diverse soils. Les Longues Fins is from a site that is laden with white chalk and fossilized crustaceans, the wine always is discreet and doling out its merits in cerebral fashion as it builds from the glass. It also doesn’t hurt that 2014 is a fabulous vintage for these wines!

Transparent, finesseful, classic aromas of peat, seashore, pronounced mineral and subtle lemon scents. Linear, electric and focused in the mouth with plenty of intensity in a restrained package; the finish is extreme mineral. Perfect fodder with just about any seafood ranging from freshly shucked oysters to sole bathed in a tarragon-cream sauce.

2014 ANDRE NEVEU SANCERRE
'LE MANOIR VIEILLES VIGNES'
$29.99 BTL./$359.88 CASE

This much Sancerre in one bottle is probably illegal in at least 17 states! Le Manoir is a special cuvee from 50+ year old vines and a special combination of limestone and gravelly soil.

Beauty of Sancerre personified, the 2014 reveals compelling, multi-dimensional aspects of seabreeze, lemon, subtle orange-musk and prominent flinty aromas. Nice depth throughout along with an abundance of racy, chalky, mineral-acidity. Old-vine sophistication abound, this wine crawls energetically from front to back, back to front and so forth then finishes with a hell of a lot of pop and extension. A real wow wine!! Like the Grand Fricambault, Got Salmon?!?!?!

2014 WALTER SCOTT PINOT NOIR
WILLAMETTE VALLEY
$22.50 BTL./$270.00 CASE

Walter Scott's entry Willamette Valley Pinot Noir doesn't exactly open the door with its terrific quality, it kicks the door in! Primarily from Eola Springs Vineyard along with selected barrels from Bieze, Temperance Hill, Ingram Lane which are all from the Eola-Amity appellation plus one famed Willamette Valley site (Freedom Hill), this number walks the line between red and black.

Sensuous aromatics with an impressive core of poised fruit, engaging smoke and spice all follows through to a silky texture that expands nicely and maintains vibrancy throughout. Having utilizing his experience with such a dry, warm vintage, winemaker Ken Pahlow created a Pinot of balance, breed, detail, sophistication that has no shortage of depth and intensity. Given the quality of fruit that cascaded down into this wine, there is no doubting this will age well for 5-7 years but damn, it drinks beautifully now. A seriously delectable Pinot that at 22.50 is an unmitigated heist.
